Exit Interview

1. Comment about your work ethic in this course.
I think that I had an excellent work ethic in this course. I finished all of my assignments on time and to my best ability. I scored a hundred percent on almost every single assignment.

2. Which assignments did you enjoy and why?
I really enjoyed the Raft and Premiere Pro assignments. They allowed me to expand my knowledge in this course, as I have not used them before. Assignments for App Inventor, Photoshop or SketchUp were not that interesting, as I have already used these programs in my past years of InfoTech.

3. Which assignments did you struggle with and why?
I struggled only with the SketchUp assignments. The program sometimes was freezing or lagging which was pretty annoying and time-consuming.

Game Journalism Day 4 - Upgrades - Raft

Five Upgrades

The Metal Axe is better as it is faster at chopping down trees and last longer.

The Medium Crop Plot is different as it allows me to plant bigger items.

The Metal Hook helps to get debris that is farther from the raft and is more durable.

I upgraded the Fishing Hook because fish are a good food source in the game.

I made the bigger storage because I was running out of space in my inventory. It was definitely worth it because now I do not have to throw away items.

Game Journalism Play 4 - Raft

If I were to start over...
  1. Collect as much debris as possible to fill inventory
  2. Grab barrels as they can raw food in them
  3. Make a plastic cup with four pieces of plastic
  4. Make a purifier with six planks, six leaves, four plastic
  5. Make a grill with six planks, one scrap, three rope
  6. Make a fishing rod with six planks, eight rope
  7. Make a wooden spear with eight planks, three rope to protect ur raft from the shark
  8. Make a building Hammer with four planks, two rope to expand the raft
  9. Make crop plots and scarecrow and plant the raw vegetables so there is a food source
  10. Make a sail with ten planks, twenty leaves, three scraps to travel to islands and abandoned rafts
The best tool for survival?
The hook is the best item for survival in the game. This item allows the player to gather debris without having to leave the raft and takes a few resources to make.
The best feature of Raft
The collection net system is the best feature of my raft. It collects resources for me while I can perform other tasks in the game.

Game Journalism Play 3 - Raft

1. What NEW things did you build today?

2. What NEW things help you play the game? (TIPS & TRICKS)

I built a Collection Net. This item can be used to collect debris floating in the water, without the player having to do work.

I built a Storage Box, this item is used to store resources. When the Inventory is getting filled, it is a good place to keep extra items.

3. What strategies are you going to try to focus on tomorrow?

Tomorrow, I am going to try to expand my farm, as it will provide me with a sufficient food supply. I will also make a Scarecrow, to keep the birds off of my crops.

4. Picture of Raft. Why is it built the way it is?

My raft is built in an arrow-shaped structure. I find it easier to collect the debris this way, as it covers a wider area. My Farm and Storage is on the right side and my other items are on the left.

Game Journalism Play 2 - Raft

1. What did you specifically do?
Today, I made a Purifier and Grill. The Purifier is used to turn saltwater into freshwater. The Grill is used to cook food and can be turned on using Planks. I used my Hook to only retrieve barrels as they have plenty of items and the other times I fished to establish a decent food supply.

2. What did you learn about how to play the game? (TIPS & TRICKS)
Make a wooden spear to defend your raft from the shark. A few hits will get the shark to back away when biting the raft. The foundation gets slightly damaged and can be repaired with the Building Hammer.
Make a Fishing Pole as it makes gathering food very easy.
Visit abandoned rafts to receive Blueprints that can be placed into a Resource Table to learn how to make more items.

3. What strategies are you going to try to focus on tomorrow?
I will try to visit an island, using the Paddle and Throwable Anchor. Make a Stone Axe to obtain resources from the trees on the island. Also, try to start a farm using the Crop Plots.

Game Journalism Day 1 - Basics - Raft

Basics
Raft is a survival game, the character is stuck on a small raft in the middle of nowhere. The goal of the game is to collect debris, expand the raft and stay alive.

Currently, in the game, I have slightly expanded my raft and collected many resources. I made several tools such as the Building Hammer, Fishing Pole, and Paddle. I also made Bed and a Research Table that allows me to learn how to make more items.

How To Collect Debris
1. Use the Grapple Hook, throw by holding Left Mouse Button and then hold Left Mouse Button again to reel it in.

2. Press "E" when debris is close to the raft to lift it with your hands.

My Raft & Game Info
1. 3x3 Raft with Bed and Resource Table.

2. There are many types of debris in the game. Wood Planks are essential as they are involved in making the majority of items, such as a Bed and Resource Table. Plastic is good for making tools such as a Paddle, Grapple Hook, and Cup. Leaves are good for making Rope. Barrels are the best type of debris as they give multiple resources.

3. Shark bites parts of the raft off every few minutes.

Death
I died because I went into the water to retrieve debris and the shark attacked me. To avoid this, I need to remain on my raft and use the Grapple Hook or my hands to retrieve debris.

Game Journalism Play 1 - Raft

1. What did you specifically do?
I retrieved my items that were floating on the ocean using Plastic Hook and pressing "E" for items that are nearby. I checked my inventory are located materials required for specific items. For example, to make the bed, it required 10 palm leaves, 6 planks, 4 plastic and 3 nails. I collected these materials with the Plastic Hook and crafted them into a bed. I made a Fishing Hook to retrieve food and an Empty Cup to retrieve water.

2. What did you learn about how to play the game?
This is a survival game and I need to find resources, explore and improve my raft to survive. The Plastic Hook is essential and used to retrieve items. The Building Hammer is used to develop the raft. There is a shark under the raft that bites off parts of the raft and bites your character if you jump into the water. Important shortcuts include, "I" to open and close the Inventory, and the scroll wheel to switch between items.

3. What strategies are you going to try to focus on tomorrow?
Tomorrow, I will try to use my Paddle and Throwable Anchor to explore islands in the world. Try to find a way to get rid of the shark. Make a Resource Table, to make use of the blueprints and a Storage as my Inventory is filling up.
